PREMAKAVALI MOVIE STAR

Dialogue King Sai Kumar's son Aadi was yet another starkid who was launched with much pomp and grandeur. The who's who of Telugu cinemadom were present at Annapurna studios when 'Prema Kavali' was launched. With huge publicity, hype and attendance of stalwarts for logo launch, audio launch and other launches, launch of Aadi became a matter of curiosity for many.We watched Prema Kavali at the Premiere show to bisect this film for you.
Story
The story begins with Prema(Isha) dropping one lakh rupees in a post box in Public Gardens yielding to the blackmail of a stalker Babji(Shafi), who keeps sending her a few pictures that shatter her.Prema is the daughter of Vijayarama Rao( an IPS officer) .Scared that her father would get to know of these pictures, she conceeds to blackmailer's demands and pay them money regularly for her pictures.Prema's sister in law (Sindhu Thulani) gets to know about these pictures in which she finds her kissing a guy.On questioning her, Prema goes on a flashback mode and tells her about that young guy Srinivas(Aadi) who was her college mate and loved her immensely. He proposed to her and even saved her from goons once.Unable to withstand his temptation, he once kissed her and someone had clicked a picture then which is being used to blackmail her now. Prema thinks Srinivas is blackmailing her.
Prema's sister in law visits Khammam, Srinivas's home to inform him of the problem Prema has been facing. The rest of the story is on how Srinivas gets to know of the relation between the blackmailers and the ISI terrorist in Chanchalguda jail and their reasons for targetting Prema.

Performances
The first thing you can't stop appreciating is the dancing skills of Aadi. His moves are perfect and are sure to give Allu Arjun a complex. He is convincing as an actor and has a good screen presence.Since this was a film purely to showcase his strengths to the industry,he has done almost everything  that an actor needs to do in Telugu films. He fought, danced, cried and romanced. He certainly has a charm and an X factor that is imperative to be a star. Isha Chawla was just another damsel in distress and leaves no impact on our minds. She has to loose oodles of weight and work on her acting skills if she needs to be taken seriously.Though she was an eye candy on screen, her expressions tell us she is going to be a one movie wonder.Shafi set the screen on fire with his action. With his instantly likeable villany with quirky expressions and cunning face, he makes you easily believe that he is a born stalker.Apart from the hero, the only other actor who got to display his acting calibre in this otherwise boring film was Shafi. Sindhu Thulani, Naaser, Jayasudha, Nagababu, Dev Gill et al are seen in blink and miss roles. Bramhanandam and Ali's comedy comes as a breather. However, their jokes have absolutely no relevance to the story.
Clap worthy moments
Aadi's dance to the songs 'Vasthava' and 'Tholakari Chinuke' are impressive. The locations in Venice, Dubai and Europe where the songs are shot are feast to eyes. Ali's 'Chain Raju' charecter is overtly funny and tickles your funny bones. The songs 'Priyathama Pranayama' and 'Tholakari Chinuke' are very well choreographed. Chota K Naidu is the second hero of this film.He has proved that he is uncontested in Tollywood when it comes to cinematography. His experience in capturing the mood of the scene is an asset to this flick

Cringe worthy moments
The story of this film is as old as Telugu cinema is.It is utterly predictable, boring and makes for a painful experience.Anyone who watched ten Telugu movies can write a script that is far less predcitable than this. The comedy scenes in this film are forcibly introduced for the heck of it.They have no logic at all and are yawn inducing. The dialogue writer for this film certainly needs to take a walk and go for a mid career training in language skills. Take this for instance, 'Nippu Arpadaniki neelu vadali...Kaneelu Aarpadaniki Nippe Vadali'.People who can decipher the meaning of this dialogue are worth a reward. Yet another dialogue that is as old as hills is -' Prema Kosam Oka Desam Tho Yudham Aina Chestha'. The gravity defying fights are sure to put you off.The scene where Aadi chases a plane with his sword is a trademark Telugu movie scene with absolutely no logic, sense and brains. Isha looks much older than Aadi.Someone shorter and better looking girl could have done the movie better. We are still wondering if Jayasudha, Nagababu, Sindhu Thulani and other obscure charecters have anything to do with this film. Half of the movie's run time is gone in introducing each charecter and their importance to the story. This process tests your patience and makes you want to drink a cup of coffee.
Verdict
This movie is made for 'Aadi' and not for entertainment. It is cliched and boring. You can wait for it to be telecast on TV.

ANUSHKA SHARMA

Critic's I-view

Click for larger view
For quite some tie there has been no solo Friday in Bollywood; there have been more than one movie every weekend. Luckily, Yash Raj Films is back to its wedding comedies with 'Band Baaja Baaraat' released on December 10, 2010, along with Anees Bazmee's 'No Problem'. Since Anees seems to have paid less attention to his comedy this time, Yash Raj Films have brighter prospects. Moreover, Yash Raj Films has brought in a new director in Maneesh Sharma who has also penned an interesting story. Though a love story, it is different inasmuch as there are two wedding planners in Delhi- Shruti and Bittoo- played by Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh.
Besides, the shooting isn't confined to an made to order studio; it rather spreads to the lanes and bye-lanes of the historic walled city of Delhi. Habib Faisal of the 'Do Dooni Chaar' fame has written the dialogues and the screenplay. The movie isn't without flaw though; the latter half isn't as capturing as the former half when Shruti sets up their company with weddings. After the interval, there are too many wedding sequences. Besides, the item number by Shah Rukh Khan misses as the actor injures his leg, and the vacuum is filled up by Bittoo and Shruti. Strangely, though the audience loves even the item number performed by proxies.
Though 'Band Baaja Baaraat' is slightly similar to 'The Wedding Planner' inasmuch as both move around two youngsters doing wedding planning business and later fall for each other, but the follow-ups are just different. According to the movie's story, two youngsters happen to meet though both have diametrically different approach to life. Shruti played by Anushka Sharma hailing from a middle class of Delhi has a definite well chartered plan for her life. However, Bittoo played by Ranveer Singh is a kind of care free student of Delhi University. Luck brings them together for business of planning weddings and later in life as if they are made for each other. After all, they realize this only after facing different phases.

Critically analyzing we find that the movie succeeds in all sectors - good story, fine screen play and exemplary dialogues even though the writer-director is new and his cast is also relatively fresh. While Anushka is two- film old, Ranveer is fresh. As far as their performances are concerned, both the protagonists - Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma are excellent and truly reflect their characters. They shoulder the movie. Manmeet Singh Sawhney as Rajinder and Manish Chaudhari as Mr Sidhwani play their parts quite well. Aseem Mishra's cinematography captures the North Indian marriages very well, and some of the sequences shot in the movie look real.
The music score is good too; Salim-Sulaiman composes the music and Amitabh Bhattacharya pens the lyrics. Vaibhavi Merchant has choreographed the "Ainvayi Ainvayi" track, which is already on the lips of the audience.

Pranitha

Story:
Sitaramudu (Rajendra Prasad) is fond of acting. He used travel different places to satisfy his urge to act in dramas. Once, he visits a village to stage a drama and a girl (Sindhu Tolani), sister of a landlord, falls in love with him. Accepting her wish, Sitaramudu meets her brother and tells that he will marry her. But, her brother says no. Immediately after that he ties the nuptial knot. But that girl wants to stay in the village as she feels that her brother would invite them back into the family.

Sitaramudu and his wife blessed with a boy called Veerababu. He is just an average boy and falls in love with Varalakshmi (Pranitha), daughter of his own maternal uncle. However, both Veerababu and Varalakshmi doesn’t know that they both are close relatives. Once, Varalakshmi’s father settle her marriage with Ramana (Samrat). Varalakshmi pleads Veerababu to do something and the couple he ties the nuptial knot.

Then, Sitramudu reveals the flashback saying that they both are close relatives and their marriage is valid. But he tells Veerababu to marry her only in presence of all her family members. So, Veerababu tries to convince Varalakshmi’s father. However, Ramana’s father reveals the identity of Veerababu and gets him thrashed black and blue. When Sitaramudu tries to convince Varalakshmi’s father, they thrash him as well. Unable to bear humiliation Sitaramudu dies. Will he get back his wife? What kind of steps he took in this regard? Did Ramana allow him to take Varalakshmi? Did Varalakshmi’s father realized his folly? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.

Performance: Siddharth’s performance is impressive in the film. The character with village backdrop suited him very well. His combination scenes with Rajendra Prasad are worth watching. Pranitha has done her best to give a decent performance. She looked good at parts. Rajendra Prasad is a show-stealer in the movie. Being a seasoned artiste, he has given a matured performance all through the film. His performance in the second half remains highlight. Other artistes including Ahuti Prasad, Viswanath Kasi and others have done justice to their roles. A parody to Varudu film was used as comedy. Brahmanandam and Ali has made a vain bid to entertain the audiences with sickening comedy.

Technical:Veera Pothana's dialogues are good. He has used made colloquial language with nativity and maintained good depth while scripting words. The writer mixed sentiment and entertainment perfectly to suit different occasions for this village love story. Cinematography by Aravind Krishna is okay. He has perfectly captured the beauty of the village with his camera. Camera work especially during songs and cycle race in the climax is good. KV Krishna Reddy should have sharpened his scissors further to trim several scenes in the film. However, there are many boring scenes in the second half and also before the interval. If such scenes were shortened further, the film would have been more impressive. For music director like Chakri, scoring tunes for a film with village backdrop is nothing. But for this time, he has given a few fresh tune. Director Rambabu has tried to given a novel movement to already known and well-played on the screen subject. None of the characters has a good foundation. Characters like Tanikella Bharani and Samrat just come and go. As far as screenplay, The director still needs some maturity in narration. Let us hope he would do something better in his next film.

REMARKS:When a director wanted to make a film, he should keep a point in mind. He must have complete grip on the subject and script. Especially, when the story and screenplay are also being handled by the same person, who is directing the film, he should keep in mind that he had to do justice to every scene. Bad Luck, Siddhartha kept high hopes on the film and all his hopes and dreams have been shattered.

Cast: Siddharth, Pranitha, Rajendra Prasad, Samrat, Tanikella Bharani, Brahmanandam, Ali, Raghu Babu, Ahuti Prasad, Bharat, Narsing Yadav, Viswanath Kasi, Sindhu Tolani, Rajitha, Surekha Vani and others.
